‘He is on our list’

Published May 5, 2007

LAHORE, May 4: Among the arrested were a number of innocent people who had nothing to do with any political activity.

The police picked up a 70-year-old man, Abdul Majeed, from Misri Shah late on Thursday night. The neighbours asked the raiding police party to explain as to why they had picked up the man. “We do not know anything. His name is on the list given by the government,” the police party replied.

The residents accompanied the elderly man to the Misri Shah police station and returned when the police freed him on their undertaking that he would not take party in any political activity.
