KARACHI, May 4: The city government will procure another snorkel, capable of fighting fires in buildings as tall as 40 stories, and 20 fire tenders with an estimated cost of Rs499 million to equip the fire brigade department on modern lines.

City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has said that the Sindh government has already given approval to the city government and after the approval of the federal government the machinery will be procured.

He said this while inspecting a second snorkel, which was recently handed over to the Fire Brigade department.

The city government has procured two new snorkels each capable of extinguishing fires in up to 16-storey buildings at a cost of Rs113.6 million. Previously, the city government had only one snorkel. The third snorkel will arrive here in the last week of May.

The nazim said that besides repairing and maintenance of old fire tenders, steps were also being taken to procure new fire tenders.
