RAWALPINDI, May 3: Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) president Pier Ferdinando Casini on Thursday discussed the role of Pakistan in the on-going war on terrorism and the current situation in neighbouring Afghanistan with President General Pervez Musharraf.

Talking to newsmen at PAF Base Chaklala before his departure Mr Casini, an Italian, gave the details of the meeting. He said the role of Pakistan in the war on terror was discussed in depth and expressed his satisfaction over the contribution of President Pervez Musharraf.

He said the stability of region could not be ensured with the effective participation of Pakistan. The IPU president said the situation in Afghanistan could only be improved with the help of all countries of the region and with the cooperation of international partners in the war on terror.

He said he agreed with President Musharraf about the need and significance of inter faith dialogue and stressed that more opportunities should be provided for the better understanding of different faiths. At the same time he added that more people to people contacts and exchange of parliamentary delegations would further the cause of understanding each other.— A Reporter
