PESHAWAR, May 1: The former Kohistan district nazim has accused the provincial revenue minister and the incumbent nazim of financial bungling and irregularities and urged the NWFP chief minister and NAB to investigate the matter.

Talking to journalists at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, former nazim Maulana Obaidullah said he had proofs of corruption that provincial Revenue Minister Maulana Asmatullah and Kohistan district Nazim Dr Saifur Rehman had committed with the connivance of district and planning officer Islam Afridi.

“Several accounts have been operating in minister’s name through the TMA Palas in which the embezzled amount worth millions of rupees has been deposited.

They have appointed their relatives as project leaders for different bogus projects in the district,” he added.

The former nazim alleged that the minister and the district nazim had bought five vehicles worth Rs20.52 million from the non-salary fund account which was in gross violation of the prescribed rules.

He said that a group of three persons had also embezzled funds allocated for the Citizen Community Boards as well as Rs2.2 million earmarked for the women development programme in the district.

Mr Obaidullah said that a number of schemes had been limited to papers and there was nothing on the ground, adding that the district government had no interest in people’s welfare and was involved in making money through backdoors.

He said the transport of Chinese goods via tool plaza was a main source of income but its contract was handed over to the administration of Northern Areas, thus depriving the district government of millions of rupees.
