LAHORE, April 30: Workers in the provincial metropolis will observe May Day as a protest day on Tuesday (today) by taking out processions and holding meetings to express resentment against the government policy of depriving them of the benefits available under labour laws and imposing restrictions on their trade union rights.
The Working Women Organisation and the All-Pakistan Trade Union Federation will organise a rally from the Lahore Press
Club to the GPO which will be led by WWO chairperson Rubina Jamil and APTUF provincial president Gulzar Chaudhry.
The Pakistan Workers Federation and Pakistan Wapda Hydro-Electric Central Labour Union will hold a May Day meeting on Nisbet Road which will be addressed by president Chaudhry Talib Nawaz and secretary-general Khurshid Ahmed. The participants will march to the GPO afterwards.
The National Trade Union Federation will hold a rally from Pakistan Television Station on Abbot Road to Lakshmi Chowk.
The National Workers Party will take out a Labour Day procession from its office on McLeod Road to GPO Chowk.
The All Pakistan Local Government Workers Federation will organise its meeting at its office in Rajgarh.
The Bonded Labour Federation will hold a meeting at Nasser Bagh which would be presided over by Syeda Ghulam Fatima.
The participants will march on the Shahrah-i-Quaid-i-Azam after the meeting.
The Muttahida Labour Federation will hold a May Day meeting outside PEL factory on Ferozepur Road.
The Tameer-i-Pakistan Party will organise a seminar at the press club which will be presided over by PPP leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
