QUETTA, April 25: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court has ordered the provincial home department to contact the Punjab home department to arrange the shifting of a local coalmine owner who had been sentenced in a contempt of court case.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani, on Wednesday observed that the Punjab home department letter, placed before it by the Advocate General of Balochistan, had not attached the medical certificate which showed that Sheikh Islam had been under treatment in Lahore prison.
The court had sentenced Sheikh Islam to six months imprisonment in a contempt of court case and the Supreme Court of Pakistan had rejected his appeal against the verdict.
PRESS CONFERENCE: Chairman of the Musharraf Hemayet Tehrik Abdul Razzak Memon has said that the protesting lawyers should wait for the decision of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on the presidential reference instead of boycotting court proceedings.
Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that the Musharraf Hemayet Tehrik would contest in the 2007 general elections as “Freedom Party”.
