Mushtaq told police he along with colleague Nadeem and others was present at a PSO petrol pump owned by Izharul Haq at Tajpura while his brother Liaqat Ali was sitting near a machine installed a few feet from the petrol pump when they heard gunfire at 3:45am.

“We saw Liaqat lying in a pool of blood and cash in his hands,” police quoted Mushtaq as saying. The injured died while being taken to the Mayo Hospital.

He said unidentified people had killed him for the reason yet to be known. Police shifted the body to morgue for an autopsy and registered a murder case against unidentified killer(s).

PRISONER DIES: An unidentified 60-year-old under-trail prisoner died in the Services Hospital. Shadman police claimed the deceased, who was arrested by the Rangers (Punjab) for his efforts to cross the Wagah Border, was mentally sick and died after a protracted illness.

SUICIDE: A teenaged girl committed suicide after her parents disallowed her to start a job in the Sattokatla area.

Police said Anna, 16, daughter of Liaqat, had passed intermediate commerce exam and wanted to start a job, which her parents were opposed to.

On the day of the incident, Anna tried to convince her mother but failed. Being dejected, she locked herself in her room and took poisonous pills. She was rushed to hospital where she died. —Staff Reporter
