ISLAMABAD, April 20: The Ministry of Religious Affairs, Zakat and Ushr said that there was no proposal under consideration by the Federal Government for levying Zakat on immovable property and real assets.

In a statement issued here, the ministry informed that in fact such proposal was never considered at any point of time. Zakat is being levied on financial assets strictly in accordance with the injunctions of the Quran and Sunnah, it said.

The statement added that a similar apprehension had been expressed in the past by the Punjab Assembly, which has already been responded to.

The Government of Pakistan is charging Zakat on voluntary basis on financial assets in the light of the Supreme Court order, it added.
