PESHAWAR, April 19: The provincial information secretary, Iqbal Afridi, and some local leaders of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf have resigned from their posts accusing NWFP PTI deputy secretary-general Shah Farman of creating hurdles in party affairs.

Mr Afridi said at a press conference at the Press Club here that he was resigning from the party with its Peshawar district vice-president Dr Inayatullah Chamkani, provincial president of Save Tehrik-i-Insaf Mujahid Islam, president of Bara sub-division Lal Mir Afridi and vice-president Sher Bahadur.

The PTI office-bearers said they would retain the party membership till May 1.

“We have taken the step because of Mr Farman, who is creating hurdles in the formation of youth wing, opposing the lawyers’ wing and not willing to establish a student’s federation of the PTI,” Mr Afridi said.

He alleged that Mr Farman was involved in hatching conspiracies and violating party discipline.

In reply to a question, Mr Afridi said he had met PTI chairman Imran Khan in this regard, who had assured him that the matter would be resolved soon.

Replying to another question, he said the provincial president of the party, Akbar Khan Matta, was not playing his role for the resolution of the matters.

He called upon the party leadership to remove Mr Farman from his post and said he and his colleagues would resign from the party if the action was not taken by May 1.—PPI
