KARACHI: WHO official visits DUHS

KARACHI, April 19: The regional director of the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Organisation (EMRO) of the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) should place greater emphasis on training of health personnel.

Dr Hussein Al Gezairy visited the Dow Medical College campus of the Dow University on Thursday along with Federal Health Secretary Khushnood Lashari.

According to a statement, the vice-chancellor of the DUHS, Professor Masood Hameed Khan, briefed the visiting WHO official Dr Gezairy and his team on the progress made by the Dow varsity in a short span of three years since its inception in December 2003.

The DUHS vice-chancellor highlighted various new programmes including institutions of medicine, dentistry, nursing, medical technology, besides community care department like liver centre and the National Institute of Diabetes.

Mr Khushnood Lashari , the federal health secretary also praised the efforts of the Dow University and specifically requested that the university students be involved with the rounds of the Expanded Programmes of Immunization (EPI).
