PESHAWAR, April 15: Differences emerged between two groups of the Peshawar University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) when one group accused its vice-chancellor of abusing his powers. They demanded his resignation.

The alliance of the Progressive and Tanzeem-i-Asatiza group members who have been opposing some decisions made by Vice-Chancellor Haroon-ur-Rasheed, who belongs to the Friend’s group, for the last nine months during syndicate meetings faced violent behaviour from senior university teachers hailing from the Friend’s group during PUTA’s general body meeting on Friday evening.

The president of PUTA and syndicate member Dr Shafiqur Rehman, from the progressive group, who was mistreated by some members of the Friend’s group during the general body meeting, announced his resignation to protest against the misconduct of university teachers.
