NAWABSHAH, April 15: The Nawabshah Police have failed to make any progress in the case of two people kidnapped from Khadar road a few days back.

The two, Ashok Kumar, a Hindu businessman, and his friend Saleem Solangi, were kidnapped from Khadar road while they were returning home after closing their shops at Wer Stop.

The Hindu community and Shehri Ittehad, Sakrand, have been continuously protesting for their recovery.

Dr. Kewal Ram, brother of Ashok Kumar told Dawn that he was being assured by police that they would be found soon but termed the assurances ‘hollow promises’ and said nothing practical was actually happening for the recovery of Ashok and Salim.

He further said that he had also met the Chief Minister Dr. Arbab Ghulam Rahim, twice who also extended an assurance regarding quick recovery of the kidnapped men. But he regretted that no serious efforts could so far be taken.

The panic-stricken citizens who were seemingly worried over the increasing crime and kidnapping incidents and poor law and order situation in the district, have almost lost their faith in the police.

According to the District Police Officer of Nawabshah, Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Jamali, police were making all out efforts for the safe recovery of the kidnapped people and arrest of culprits.

He said that many raids were conducted and a number of people were also arrested and expected good results in this regard.

To a question, he expressed his concern over the increasing number of incidents of crime and said that action would definitely be taken against negligent officers and a major reshuffle at police station level was also expected in a couple of days.

He further said that responsibility shifted to the investigation wing of the police once a crime was committed and it was bound to arrest the accused and submit challans in a court of law.

The SP Investigation of Nawabshah, Syed Ghayasuddin Rashidi, however, said that despite shortage of staff and vehicles, investigation wing was making all possible efforts to arrest the culprits involved in kidnapping and other such heinous crimes.

KAUSAR ABBAS: Meanwhile, residents of Nawabshah city, including family members of late Kausar Abbas, took out a rally and staged a demonstration to protest against failure of police to contain crime and arrest the killers, here on Sunday.

The rally which emerged from Ghulam Rasool Shah Colony, paraded on the main thoroughfares, converged in front of the local press club. Carrying placards and banners, the protesters raised slogans against the police.

Ghulam Abbas, Malik Aijaz, Syed Iftikhar Shah and others, said that Kausar Abbas was shot at by mobile phone snatchers on April 10 who died later.

They alleged that the police were a party to the growing mobile phone and motorcycle snatching.
