NEW DELHI, April 7: Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee suffered a head injury when his car had a head-on collision with a truck at Nakashipara in Nadia district of West Bengal on Saturday evening.

Mr Mukherjee had to have stitches on his head at Bethuadahari Primary Hospital and his condition was stable, senior police officer Raj Kanojia said. Mr Mukherjee was to be shifted to Krishnanagar Sadar Hospital for observation, he said.

West Bengal Congress party general secretary Manas Bhuniya, who was travelling with Mr Mukherjee, said that the accident occurred when the truck skidded off the road after its tyre burst and collided with the car.

Mr Bhuniya said the driver and security guard of Mukherjee also suffered injury.
