Funds linked with PML support

Published March 31, 2007

GUJRANWALA, March 30: Union council nazims, who did not join the ruling PML, have been deprived of a grant of Rs8 million each for the uplift schemes announced by President Pervez Musharraf during his public meeting in the city on March 15. Instead the government approved development schemes of those nazims who joined the PML, it was learnt on Friday.

A source said the decision was taken on the directive of the Punjab chief minister.

But some nazims refused to join the PML and they were quoted as saying that they could not change their loyalty for funds and instead they termed it a political bribery.

Nazims of Nandipur town approved eight development schemes, Aroop town 12, Qila Dedar Singh four and Khiali Shahpur six while work on them would be taken in hand shortly.
