KARACHI, March 30: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Turkish Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu have called for joint anti-terrorism efforts by all countries. The Turkish interior minister, who arrived here early Thursday heading a 14-member delegation, called on the governor at Governor House on Thursday afternoon.
Advisor Home Wasim Akhtar, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Javed Zia, PPO Jehangir Mirza, CCPO Azhar Farooqi and other officials were also present.
The governor and visiting Turkish minister agreed upon sharing of intelligence, education and training to make anti-terrorism efforts successful. They said that Pakistan and Turkey enjoy very old, brotherly relations and that the existing relations in various fields will be further strengthened.
Dr Ibad pointed out that Pakistan is facing a wave of international terrorism and is fighting against it as a frontline state.
The governor highlighted various opportunities for investment in the province.
The Turkish interior minister appreciated the anti-terrorism efforts of Dr Ibad saying that after September 11, 2001, the fight against terrorism is the agenda of every country. He elaborated upon the performance of an international academy established in Turkey in this regard.
Abdulkadir Aksu informed that Turkish investors have made over $300 million investment in Sindh, including Karachi.He said that land has been provided for establishing Pakistan School in Ankara and an agreement in this respect has been concluded.
Earlier Advisor Home Wasim Akhtar hosted a luncheon for the visiting Turkish Minister, his wife and other members of his delegation.
During an informal talk on the occasion, Wasim Akhtar said there is a need for making the agreements, including those for elimination of terrorism, more effective so that people of both countries are protected.
The Turkish minister along with members of his delegation, visited the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to pay homage to the founder of Pakistan. He laid a wreath at the Quaid’s Mazar and offered fateha.
Later, Abdulkadir Aksu visited the Mohatta Palace. After meeting with the governor, the delegation left for Islamabad, where they are scheduled to hold talks with the interior minister.—APP
