KARACHI, March 30: The city government has devolved six major departments relating to the Surjani Town project and ordered posting of officials and support staff to revamp Surjani Town’s infrastructure and development.

Through a notification, issued by the District Coordination Officer (DCO), officials and staff concerned of Master Plan, Revenue, Works and Services, Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA), Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and Parks department were placed at the disposal of Project Director Surjani Town to streamline the work.

Project Director Surjani Town Raza Abbas Rizvi told Dawn the devolution of the six departments’ staff would help in improving the infrastructure and rehabilitation of Surjani Town besides reducing several bottlenecks.

Last September, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan directed the authorities to develop and rehabilitate the Surjani Town on modern lines and to remove the encroachment, as all previous governments neglected this area. —Staff Reporter
