DUBAI, Feb 25: Amelie Mauresmo claimed her first title since May last year when she defeated Sandrine Testud 6-4 7-6 to win the Dubai Open on Saturday.
Mauresmo, whose last success came at the German Open in Berlin, overcame her French compatriot in a contest lasting one hour 44 minutes.
Escude downs Henman: Defending champion Nicolas Escude won his second successive World Indoor Tournament title in Rotterdam after struggling past sixth seed Tim Henman 3-6 7-6 6-4 in final.
The Frenchman became the first player since Stefan Edberg in 1988 to win back to back Rotterdam titles, while Henman suffered his third Rotterdam final defeat in four years.
First title for Massu: Chile’s Nicolas Massu stormed back from the brink of defeat to overcome Argentina’s Agustin Calleri 2-6 7-6 6-2 to win the Buenos Aires Open and claim his first ATP title on Sunday.
Massu saved two match points after Calleri, first round conquerer of top seed Gustavo Kuerten and playing his first ATP final, won the first set and raced to a 5-1 lead in the second.
Roddick triumphs: American powerhouse Andy Roddick won the fourth ATP singles title of his short career on Sunday when he out-gunned Davis Cup team mate James Blake 6-4 3-6 7-5 in Memphis.—Reuters
