KARACHI, March 28: The Standing Committee of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has reiterated its determination to protect and expand press freedom in the country, while also engaging in a dialogue with the government.

According to a press release, the CPNE in a meeting presided over by its president Syed Faseih Iqbal, approved the formation of a committee to represent the CPNE on the joint committee of the CPNE and the government in the ministry of information and broadcasting in Islamabad.

The joint committee will take up all matters of urgency requiring discussion and resolution so that the working relationship between the CPNE and the government in respect of issues concerning the media is promoted in the interest of free press and in the service of democratic practices.

Earlier, the meeting was informed that the joint committee would be a permanent body to attend to urgent matters in connection with professional work of editors and the print media.
