SUP seeks provincial autonomy

BADIN, March 28: The federating units should be made strong enough to keep the country united, said the chairman Sindh United Party (SUP), Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah. Speaking at `meet the press’ on Wednesday he said that the provinces should be given full autonomy under 1940 Resolution. Denial of it was one of the reasons of creation of Bangladesh, he said. Provinces are national units which cannot be divided into more provinces, Mr Shah said.

He agreed with the questioner that the nationalist parties were losing the confidence of people as they have failed in resolving the problems at local level.

The SUP came into existence in 1936 and it now wants to remain in the orbit of federation. He said, federation is a good system in the democracy but the use of the powers must be fair.

To a question, Jalal Shah stressed the need of devolving the powers.

Earlier, speaking at a gathering at the Memon Community Hall, he said, the country was passing through a bad phase as no one feels safe and secure.

Jalal Mehmood Shah said that the legislators and elected representatives talk about national issues but fail in resolving the provincial problems, while his party would focus on the provincial issues especially, the NFC award, shortage of water, health, education, resources of the province and employment rights.
