ISLAMABAD, March 27: The government has decided not to stop ‘suspended’ Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry from proceeding to the Lahore High Court (LHC) building in Rawalpindi where he is likely to address lawyers on Wednesday, a senior security official has said.

Talking to Dawn on Tuesday, the official said the federal government had directed the local administration in Islamabad and the Punjab government not to create any hurdle in the way of Justice Iftikhar right from his residence to the LHC Rawalpindi Bench building.

The official said he could not confirm at this stage whether the CJ would go directly to the LHC building or he would be taken by the lawyers in procession.

He said the lawyers wanted to take the CJ in a car rally but Justice Iftikhar was stated to be reluctant and wanted to go directly to the high court building.

“If he goes directly, the lawyers will receive him at Kutchery Chowk from where he will be taken to the high court building in a rally,” the source said.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the lawyers representing the CJ in the reference continued at his residence to finalise a strategy for the CJ’s address to the Rawalpindi Bar Council till the filing of this report.
