MITHI, March 27: The district council Tharparkar, after passing resolutions, has asked the government to take notice of the underground atomic explosions being conducted by India in Rajasthan.

Thar borders Rajasthan, and as such these explosions have turned the underground water of Mithi and Diplo talukas brackish.

Gumansingh Sodho while moving the resolution alleged that the radiance and gases caused due to these explosions have damaged the water reservoirs and was increasing the incidences of cancer, TB and other diseases. He called upon the ministry of health and science to conduct water quality tests and create awareness among the locals in this regard.

In another resolution, he raised the problems of gutting of houses in the sand-blowing region of Thar and asked the authorities to immediately compensate Tharis who are already reeling under the burden of poverty in their thatched dwellings.

However, district nazim or the DCO are not empowered to extend assistance to such people.

He demanded funds for such emergencies in district budget and powers to officials to cope up in such situations. The council passed the resolution after heated arguments.

It also passed a number of other resolutions and demanded the construction of community centres in village Pabe Jo Paar, Daio Halepoto and Dharindro; buildings for boys primary school at village Vaori Dora and girls primary schools of Lilani mohalla of village Ramji Ji Veri; compound wall of boys primary school Aranro and girls primary school of Attaullah mohalla of village Vaori Dora; wells in Amin Ji Dhani and Mithu Jo Goth; Musafirkhana at bus stop of village Kehri and a road from Nagarparkar to Sardro (a pilgrimage place for Hindus). Convenor Abdul Karim Rahoomo was in chair at the session.
