Kirmani put on ECL

ISLAMABAD, March 27: The government on Tuesday put the name of outgoing Pakistan International Airlines’ chairman Tariq Kirmani on the Exit Control List a day after he resigned from the office, sources told Dawn.

No official reason has been given for the move. But the action against Mr Kirmani has come against the backdrop of allegation that he was responsible for the poor state of affairs in the airline, particularly on the issue of the imposition of a ban on PIA aircraft by European Union (EU).

Mr Kirmani tendered his resignation on Monday.

He is reported to have said that he had taken the decision because of personal reasons and there had been no pressure on him from any quarter to quit.
