KHAIRPUR, March 25: Several areas in northern Sindh, including Khairpur district, remained without power supply for about six to seven hours on Saturday night.

An auxiliary transformer in unit-3 of the Guddu thermal powerhouse developed a fault on Saturday evening, suspending power supply to northern Sindh.

Consequently, Khairpur, Pir Jo Goth, Kotdiji, Gambat, Sorah, Rasoolabad and Thari Mirwah grid stations of Khairpur district, Mehrabpur grid station Nawabshah district and several other electricity feeders were without power supply.

Khairpur city and hundreds of towns and villages of the district plunged into darkness. The people of the district faced hardships and main markets, bazaars and trading centres were closed after power outage.

Reports said that other areas of upper Sindh, including Kashmor, Kandhkot and Thul, were also without power supply.

Power supply was restored at about 1am on Sunday.

When the powerhouse administration was contacted on phone on Sunday, the calls remained unattended.

freedom fighter: Jeay Sindh Mahaz General Secretary Hashim Khoso has said that Hosh Mohammad Sheedi was a great freedom fighter and the spirit and bravery with which he fought in the war for independence of Sindh against British rulers was the symbol of his love for motherland.He said that it was sad to see that Sindh was still under the control of a particular province.

He was speaking at a gathering organised by the Khairpur JSM in Bhitai Colony here to mark the death anniversary of Hosh Mohammad Sheedi.

The JSM leader said that the war slogan of Hosh Mohammad Sheedi, "we will die but shall not hand over Sindh," shook the confidence of the colonial army.

He said that since Sir Charles Napier to the present government of Pakistan, conspiracies had been hatched to divide Sindh but they had always failed.
