KARACHI, March 25: Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has impressed upon the officials concerned to implement the prescribed rules and regulations governing the public and private healthcare facilities in order to ensure provision of improved health facilities to people.

Presiding over a high-level meeting at the Governor's House, he said proper legislation should be carried out in this regard. Besides setting up an autonomous authority for private hospitals and clinics, rules and regulations should also be made with a view to improve condition of government hospitals, he stressed.

The meeting was told that a medical expert would be posted as chairman of the proposed authority whereas vice-chancellors of the Dow University of Health Sciences, the Liaquat University of Health Sciences, and a private sector medical university would be its members.

The Pakistan Medical Association, the Pakistan Dental Association, the Association of Private Hospitals and organisations of family physicians would also be given representation in the authority.

The governor issued necessary instruction for the activation of the management board system in government hospitals steps for improved condition and performance of the public sector hospitals.

Senior Minister for Health Syed Sardar Ahmed, Secretary Health Prof Naushad Ahmed Shaikh, Advocate General Anwar Mansoor Khan and Additional Advocate General Qazi Khalid Ali were among those present at the meeting.—PPI
