KARACHI, March 24: Major area of the old city, Defence and Clifton plunged into darkness on Saturday night when the Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation faced a sudden shortfall of more than 250 Megawatts in power distribution.

Due to the shortfall, a vast area of Clifton, Defence Housing Authority, Gizri, parts of Korangi, Saddar, old city areas, including Lyari and others, were deprived of electricity supply.

KESC officials said that the shortfall originated from the Jamshoro link through which the KESC received electricity from Wapda. The link tripped at a sudden causing a shortfall of about 250MW.

They said that tripping in 19 grids took place and the power utility immediately carried out power loadshedding for one hour on rotation basis.

The reason of tripping on Wapda link was stated to be tripping of eight units of Wapda at Guddu.

Officials said as soon as the situation would get normalise, the loadshedding would be abandoned.—Correspondent
