QUETTA March 24: The Balochistan Zamindar Action Committee has threatened to launch a movement against the Quetta Electric Supply Company in protest against suspension of power supply to tubewells.

Speaking at a meeting held here on Saturday, farmers expressed concern over the situation and condemned the suspension of electricity. Agha Taj Mohammad presided over the meeting.

Representatives of growers from 18 districts of the province attended the meeting.

In a statement issued here after the meeting, the farmers said that they were regularly paying the Rs4,000 monthly bill to Qesco besides the outstanding dues.

They said that the federal government had failed to issue the notification about the waiving of agriculture bank loans of Rs6 billion by President Musharraf on May 22, 2006.

The committee demanded that the government must fulfil the promise made by the president.

The meeting decided that if Qesco did not restore the supply of electricity to tubewells, zamindars would hold rallies and observe a hunger strike on March 29.
