‘Rumours about team rubbish’

Published March 24, 2007

KINGSTON (Jamaica), March 23: Hard-hitting batsman Shahid Afridi on Friday strongly quashed rumours that Pakistan players are involved in the murder of their coach Bob Woolmer who died on Sunday.

“It’s all rubbish and smearing campaign against the Pakistan team that they are involved in the murder of Bob Woolmer,” Afridi told APP on telephone from Montego Bay in the afternoon. “We are safe and sound and looking forward to fly back home on Saturday evening,” he said, adding, “Inzamam-ul-Haq and others, all are fine.”

He confirmed that DNA tests of all the players and officials had been carried out. “There are no restrictions on our travelling to Pakistan, our luggage is packed and we would be flying home on Saturday as per the schedule,” he stressed.

Afridi, who looked unperturbed despite an alarming situation, reiterated that like everybody he was also deeply shattered and disappointed with the performance of the team.
