PESHAWAR, March 21: Peshawar High Court judge Mr Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, who is holding an inquiry into the manhandling of the Chief Justice of Pakistan by police, issued on Wednesday a public notice, asking all people who had witnessed, recorded or photographed the incident to appear before him on March 24.

Appointed inquiry officer by the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday, Justice Afzal Khan will conduct proceedings at the Federal Shariat Court building on March 24, 26 and 27. He will complete the inquiry within seven days.

“This public notice is given to all those who have witnessed, recorded or photographed the said incident, including the print and electronic media, to appear before the said judge in between 9 AM to 3 PM on March 24, 26 and 27 at Federal Shariat Court Building in Islamabad,” says the notice issued by the secretary of Justice Afzal Khan.

A bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan comprising Acting Chief Justice Mr Justice Javed Iqbal, Mr Justice Abdul Hamid Dogar and Mr Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan had on Tuesday ordered Mr Justice Afzal Khan to conduct a fully-fledged inquiry into the manhandling by police of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

The apex court directed the judge to fix responsibility on delinquent officers/officials, ascertain its causes and suggest measures to avoid such incidents in future.
