LAHORE, March 21: Punters suffered heavy losses when favourite horses flopped one after the other in four races during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
The feature event which was the fifth race of the day was cancelled due to heavy rain. Thus, the scheduled card of five races was reduced to four.
The rain, however, brought some relief to the losing punters. Their rout began right from the opener when a long shot bay gelding, Dam Dama Dam, won the race beating another long shot Dashing Paradise by a short-head margin in a photo-finish verdict.Favourite chestnut mare Simoom burst her blood vessel during the race and ran off the board.
Another long shot bay gelding, Valentino, won the second race defeating Princess Afaq by a neck on the finishing post. Favourite mare Bosra Sham finished third by over a length.
The neglected bay mare, Royal Fish was lucky to win the third race, courtesy of an objection raised by filly Iconic, who finished fourth against the winner, Prince Salman.
The rider of Iconic lodged an objection against the winner, Prince Salman (Anjum up), for boring, pressing and crossing, which was upheld by LRC stewards. Prince Salman was disqualified and the race was awarded to Royal Fish.
A complete dark horse, Moj Mayla sprang a big surprise by winning the fourth race. He beat favourite Mama Mia by over a length.
