Cotton growers slam ginners

KHAIRPUR, Oct 19: Cotton growers of Hingorja taluka staged a protest demonstration against the cotton ginners for paying a low price than what was fixed by the government here the other day.

Representatives of cotton growers told the newsmen that the ginners were paying Rs 660 per maund of phutti, instead of Rs 780 per maund.

They threatened that more than 500 abadgars would protest in front of District Nazim office if phutti was not purchased at the government fixed rate.

BUS LOOTED: The passengers of a Lahore bound Blue Line coach (LHC-9555) were robbed on National Highway near Shah ji Machine, taluka Sobhodero on Thursday night.

Five men embarked on the coach as passengers from Halani, bordering town of district Khairpur.

When the coach reached near Shah ji Machine they brought out arms, overpowered the driver and forced him to take the vehicle down the National Highway, where the robbers snatched watches, gold ornaments and cash from the passengers and fled.

Later the looted passengers staged protest sit-in on the road.

SANITATION STAFF: The sanitation staff of Bhirya, a bordering town of Khairpur, boycotted their work on Friday as protest against non-payment of salaries for last three months.

They also staged demonstration in front of the taluka Nazim office.

They threatened to widen the scope of their agitation if their salaries were not immediately paid.

Meanwhile, heaps of garbage have accumulated on the roads and streets of the town and the sewage is overflowing on the roads as the boycott of the employees and sanitation staff of union council Padidan entered second week Friday.

They are also protesting against non-payment of their salaries for last seven months.

INJURED: Two motorcyclists were seriously injured by some unidentified armed men here on Friday on the busiest Station Road of Khairpur city.

The injured Nazir Ahmed Ghumro and Niaz Hussain Lohar were admitted to civil hospital here. Later, they were taken to Sukkur hospital in a critical condition.

The motive behind the attack is said to be old enmity.

WOMEN DIE: A woman who was injured by his brother in Kutcha area of Belo Kalhoro the other day, expired on Thursday night.

Ms Naseem Kalhoro was attacked and injured by her brother who suspected her to have illicit relation with a man.

Another woman Ms Ghulam Shabbiran who was tortured and severely injured in another incident, died on Sobhodero taluka hospital on Thursday night.

Sobhodero police have registered a case under section 302 PPC and arrested Mohammad Usman, father-in-law of the murdered woman.

According to the parents of deceased, she was tortured by her husband on the instigation of his father.

SUICIDE: A youth Chanesar Bhatti, aged 20 years, committed suicide by taking pesticide over some domestic problem.
