LONDON, March 18: A group of over 70-strong Pakistanis belonging to the two mainstream political parties, the PPP and PML-N and People’s Muslim League of Azad Kashmir held an hour-long protest demonstration in front of the Pakistan High Commission here around mid-day on Sunday.

The demonstrators also filed a petition with the High Commission calling for immediate reinstatement of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, release of all political detainees held during the protest rallies since March 9, restoration of democracy and holding of fair and free election and transfer of power to elected representatives of the people.

The demonstrators shouted slogans condemning the president’s reference against the CJ and the way he had been mistreated by the administration, denounced the prolonged army rule and deplored what they called the ‘civilian tola’ of the Chaudhries which they said was supporting an unconstitutional, illegal and immoral government.

They also raised slogans in support of freedom of the media and condemned the government for the police raid on the Geo TV Bureau in Islamabad and stoppage of one of its programmes.
