KARACHI: Blast in Lyari

Published March 18, 2007

KARACHI, March 17: Residents of Saifi Lane, Union Council Baghdadi, expressed concern over the persisting fear gripping areas of Lyari Town amid the intensifying gang-war. The gang-war has already claimed several lives.

Late on Friday night, a blast shattered peace in Saifi Lane, unaffected by the gang-war till now. The blast was caused by a hand-grenade lobbed by miscreants riding a bicycle in Mombasa Street. Three persons sitting outside their house were injured.

The blast shattered window panes of several houses and forced people to rush to safety. There was panic all around as people feared more violence.

Elders of the area and leaders of local community-based organisations have appealed to the authorities to take steps to bring an end to the gang-war before it could spread to more areas and turn them into battle ground of the rival gangs.
