RAJANPUR, March 16: The poor state of affairs at government primary schools, the basic health unit and an agriculture centre in Basti Langah took Rajanpur DCO Qaiser Saleem by surprise when he visited there.

The DCO found that the primary girls school, constructed some 18 years back, had been changed into a cattle-pen. The enrolled girl students are suffering badly as lady teachers remain absent. Similar is the situation at a primary boys school where a teacher has been absent for the last four years. He is reportedly employed at a pharmaceutical company.

The DCO noted that medicines were in abundance at the BHU, but the doctor and the paramedical staff were nowhere.

The people informed the DCO that they had never seen any official at the agriculture centre, now bustling with goats and sheep. The DCO, also accompanied by district monitoring officer Asifur Rehman, assured the people that strict action would be taken against the negligent officials.

The DCO also visited Fazilpur where people lodged a deluge of complaints against Wapda and the ugly cleanliness situation. He ordered action against the chief officer, the sanitary inspector and the supervisor. He also set the deadline of one month for TMA XEN Fazal Elahi for the installation of streetlights in the town.

The DCO also directed Wapda officials to redress the grievances of the people regarding the hanging of electricity wire in streets at dangerously low level within three days.
