KARACHI, March 16: The residents of various localities have complained of short supply and water contamination and said the KWSB officials were aware of the problem, but had taken no measures to resolve them.

The worst hit localities are Hill Area, Mohammadi Masjid Road, Swat Charbagh Colony in Jamshed Town. Mahmood Shah Bukhari Road near KMC Dispensary in Mehmoodabad, Masoom Shah Colony, Liaquat Ashraf Colony, Allama Iqbal Colony and Mehmoodabad.

People informed that a 15-inch-dia water pipeline supply scheme was initiated by the former city government from Lines Area, which had not yet been completed. Residents complained that water to the vicinity of Mehmood Shah Bukhari Road was supplied for only 15 minutes daily while residents of other areas were getting water for three hours twice a week, which was insufficient.

Residents of Chanesar Goth, UC-4 also complained of water contamination, saying it was a chronic problem. They said the officials had taken no action and people were suffering from abdominal diseases.

The KWSB XEN when contacted said, the people were stealing water from main lines which was why water contamination complaints were on the rise.

He said as far as water shortage is concerned, work was in process and it would take four months before the problem would be resolved.

Residents of Mano Goth, Ibrahim Village of Gulshan Town also complained of water contamination and said that most of the pipelines were obsolete and developed cracks and sewage mixes with potable water.
