LAHORE, March 15: The Punjab University’s Law College students on Thursday staged a protest demonstration and blocked the Canal Road along the New Campus for about an hour against the presidential action against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

The students chanted slogans against the “army government” and condemned its un-constitutional action.

Speaking to the protesters, Islami Jamiat Tuleba nazim Muhammad Ayub said the students community condemned government’s interference in superior judiciary’s matters. He said the government had insulted the judiciary in particular and the nation in general by taking action against the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP).

The protesters demanded that the government should immediately reinstate the CJP. Otherwise, they would continue protest along with lawyers’ community to restore the prestige of judiciary.

After the protest, the students dispersed peacefully. However, commuters on Canal Road had to face a great deal of inconvenience.
