VEHARI, March 15: The Saddar police registered a murder case against 17 people, including a DSP and 12 policemen, on the orders of Multan bench of the Lahore High Court on Thursday about 10 months after the incident.
The case was registered against DSP Zafar Dogar, SHO Aslam Ghumman, SI Mukhtar, ASI Abdul Jabbar, ASI Nisar Ahmad, Constable Zia, former UC nazim Afzal Yousaf, councillor Shafiq Dogar and nine unidentified police officials for killing Ashraf alias Jani in a fake encounter on May 24, 2006 in Chak 23/WB.
DSP Zafar Dogar is working as SDPO in Hasilpur, Aslam Ghumman as SHO in Sahiwal and other officials in different police stations in the district.
Rashidan Bibi, the mother of Ashraf, told newsmen that the nominated police officials were still working despite the registration of murder case against them. She urged the Vehari DPO to arrest them after suspending them from service.
She said the nominated police officials were threatening her family with dire consequences. The Saddar police registered the case after eight month’s struggle, she added.
She said she filed applications in different courts and moved the high court last month after failing to get justice from lower courts.
COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY: A police patrol reportedly recovered counterfeit currency notes worth Rs36,000 and arrested two people.
Fateh Shah police have registered a case against Riaz and Ashraf.
They said the accused had been circulating counterfeit currency in Vehari and its adjoining areas. They claimed that the accused were members of a gang involved in the ugly business.
They said their accomplices would soon be arrested.
