KARACHI: Poll plea dismissed

Published March 16, 2007

KARACHI, March 15: Justice Mushir Alam of the Sindh High Court on Thursday dismissed petitions against the election of MNA Dr Ghaffar Jatoi and MPA Arif Jatoi of Naushero Feroze.

Zulfikar Ali Behen and Qurban Ali Behen of the PPP had separately challenged the election of Dr Jatoi, brother of former caretaker premier Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, and Arif Jatoi, the ex-PM’s son, from the national and provincial constituencies of Naushero Feroze, in the October 2002 general election. They alleged widespread irregularities in the polls. The candidates declared successful in the official results denied the allegation, and said that the massive lead obtained by them over their rivals belied any possibility of rigging.
