MPA remanded in judicial custody

OKARA, March 14: Anti-terrorism court, Lahore judge Chaudhry Zafar Husain on Wednesday remanded in judicial custody PPP district president MPA Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna and his accomplice Aslam.

They were sent to Sahiwal central jail.

Reports said Okara police, headed by DSP Younis Butt, produced the MPA and his accomplice before the court after a one-day physical remand.

City A-division police had registered a case against the MPA and others under (7) ATA and 188, 148, 149, 353 of PPC for allegedly delivering provocative speeches against the government on the eve of chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). Eight accused had been nominated in the case while over 20 were unidentified.

After registration of the case, lawyers Ijaz Jamal and Sirajul Islam have filed the bail application of MPA Ashraf Sohna with the court of Chaudhry Zafar Husain at Lahore who has sought record of the case on March 16 and also issued a notice to the government.

Candidates eligible under section 41(4) of Police Order 2002 can file their nomination papers from March 15 (today) from 10am to 3pm. Withdrawals can be made by March 19. Election will be held on 21st from 10am to 3pm.
