HYDERABAD, March 11: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture demanded on Sunday that the government should ensure that the areas where cotton had been cultivated earlier were supplied DAP fertiliser on priority basis.

An SCA meeting presided over by its Vice-President Mir Murad Ali Khan Talpur expressed fear that if Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Badin, Matiari and Thatta districts where cotton had been cultivated earlier did not get the fertiliser in time it would deal a great blow to the crop.

The meeting urged the government to continue subsidy on DAP fertilisers for Kharif crops and carry out checks on the quality of fertilisers lying with dealers.

The meeting criticised the water rotation programme of Naseer Canal and maintained that there was no need to continue the programme when water was available in abundance. The programme should be ended immediately, the meeting demanded.

The meeting urged the government to announce a clear-cut policy on the waiver of agricultural loans and direct banks not to harass farming community in this regard.

Anwar Bachani, Dr Shahnawaz Shah, Qazi Abdul Majeed, Ghulam Hussain Shah, Nawaz Ali Samejo and Mir Imdad Ali attended the meeting.

WORKSHOP: The Department of English of the University of Sindh organised a one-day training workshop on English Language Teaching (ELT) in collaboration with Oxford University Press (OUP) at Shaikh Ayaz Auditorium on Saturday.

The workshop was aimed at training English teachers in the revised syllabus of English as a compulsory subject for BA, BSc, BCom (pass) and BSc Home Economics Part-I and II at the affiliated colleges of the university.
