Eyewitness in murder case abducted

GUJRANWALA, March 10: Rivals kidnapped the complainant, also happened to be an eyewitness in a murder case of his brother, when he refused the mediation offer in Wazirabad on Saturday.

A local court had handed down death sentence to Babar Ali for murdering the brother of complainant Muhammad Akbar of Qudratabad. Family of the convict was pressuring next of heirs of the deceased for mediation, but the complainant refused to do so.

On Saturday, Akbar was on his way home from the market when his rivals kidnapped him.

Wazirabad Saddar police registered a case against some dozen accused.

Heirs expressed the fear that kidnappers might kill him as well.

HEARING: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 continued the murder case hearing of Punjab minister Zille Huma on second consecutive day and recorded statements of prosecution witnesses here on Saturday.

The judge recorded statements of DHQ doctors — Dr Nuzhat, Dr Memona and Dr Anwer Chaudhry, head-constable Javed Iqbal, constable Masood Bhutta and private witness Muhammad Ashraf. While the prosecution dropped the evidence of Muhammad Qasim. Defence counsel Chaudhry Muhammad Tariq quizzed the witnesses.

The court later adjourned the case till Monday. — Correspondent
