KARACHI, March 10: The Pakistan Islamic Medical Association, Sindh, organised a workshop for doctors on research methodology and manuscript writing on Saturday. The workshop was a component of the 10th PIMA biennial convention which started at a local hotel on Saturday. About 140 doctors from different parts of the province attended the workshop, addressed by various researchers, including Professor Zulfiqar Bhutta, Dr Fatima Jawad, Dr M. Wasay, Dr Ammar Siddiqui, Dr Nazir Khan, Dr Iqbal Azam and Dr Rozina.Dr Bhutta said it was the lack of awareness or improper publicity that millions of rupees available with different national institutions or foreign funds for research in the field of medicines and pharmaceuticals remained unutilised every year. He urged the workshop organisers to promote awareness about the research options among doctors as well.

Dr M Wasay was of the view that local doctors should find time for updating their information about medical practices and technological advancements. At the same time, efforts should be made to apply that knowledge on their patients, keeping in view the local living conditions and the physical structure of patients as well as social and economic circumstances they were faced with.

The speakers stressed to promote the culture of research and report writing among the medical professionals. Speakers were of the view that research should be undertaken by local doctors to enhance their understanding about diseases and find ways to prevent those in the local prospective.

Workshops on “Cardiology update”, and “Essential burns care” were also held during the day at different venues.
