RAWALPINDI, March 9: The Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) No-1 Friday put off hearing in Shazia Mubashir case till March 19 after her counsel again pleaded that a petition seeking her acquittal was pending with Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench.

Advocate Ghulam Akbar Awan asked the court not to take up the case, as the high court had directed the state counsel to produce the decision of the military court before the bench and the orders were still awaited.

Mr Awan has sought acquittal of Ms Mubashir in the petition filed with the higher court on the plea that she had already been convicted by an army court for the same charges during an in- camera trial.

Shazia Mubashir was arrested along with eight men for planning an attempt on the life of President Gen Pervez Musharraf on December 25, 2003 when two suicide bombers rammed their explosives-laden vehicle into the convoy of the president killing 15 people, mostly the security personnel.

The other eight persons were tried under the Army Act and convicted in mid-2005 by a field court martial general at Attock Fort. It could not be established whether or not Shazia was tried in the military court.—A Reporter
