Published February 23, 2002

KARACHI, Feb 22: The World Scout Day was observed here like in other Scout member countries on Friday with great fervour.

The activities held in Karachi included speech contests and quiz competitions on the scout history and the life and achievement of the scout movement’s founder, Lord Baden Powel.

The Rover Scouts of open districts visited hospitals in their respective areas and met patients. They also visited institutions for special children.

A get-together of veteran scout leaders and commissioners was held at the International Scout Hostel, “Amin House.”

On the occasion a birthday cake for Lord Baden Powel was also cut. The scouts made a pledge to use the best of their energies for the promotion of scouting and better training of upcoming scouts.

The ceremony was addressed, among others, by veteran scout leaders Farooq Effendi, Sher Ali Rizvi and Jaffer Kazim.—APP
