KARACHI, March 6: A group of nine young peace activists has started a month-long cycle expedition from Indian state of Maharashtra to Islamabad, said a spokesman of the Pakistan-India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy on Tuesday.

According to him, the peace journey commenced on March 1 will reach Wagah border on March 31 covering a distance of 3,000 kilometres.

“The young members of the PIPFPD of this side of border will join them from Lahore to Islamabad,” the Forum official said.

The group comprises seven male and two female cyclists and will pass through six Indian states on their way to Pakistan spreading message of peace and harmony.

“On their way the group on its fifth day of cycling is spending times in villages, temples, mosques and dharamshalas talking to young people about the urgency of Indo-Pakistan peace,” said the Forum official.

“The blast that ripped through Samjhota Express on February 19 could not shake the resolve of these young people,” he said.

The PIPFPD will receive the group at Wagah border on April 1 followed by a series of programmes in Lahore and other cities on their way to Islamabad.
