TANK, March 5: The Tank City Police Station came under rocket attack and gunfire on Sunday night, officials and residents said. They said that several rockets were fired on the police station located in the Sabir bazaar from the western side of the city, but they missed the target and exploded in nearby fields, causing no casualties or damage to property.

The rocket attack was followed by gunfire. Police returned fire. The exchange of fire continued for half an hour after which the assailants fled. Residents of the area said that the sound of explosions was heard in the area and also in far-off localities, creating panic and fear among the people.

Our Correspondent in Mardan adds: Police on Monday seized 180 dynamites from a truck near Katlang and arrested two men.

The truck had been stopped by a police team posted by district police officer Akhtar Hayat Gandapur near Katlang.

During a search, police found 180 dynamites concealed in secret cavities. Police arrested truck owners Nadan Shah and Amir Shah.

Our Correspondent in Khaar adds: Unidentified militants blew up a culvert on the main road near Tarkho village in the Mamond tehsil in the Bajaur Agency late on Sunday, officials said.

They said that a bomb planted under the culvert exploded after midnight. However, it did not cause loss of life or any damage to property.
