KARACHI, March 1: Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria said on Thursday he would be firing on cylinders in the World Cup to boost his depleted side on the Caribbean soil after the recent setbacks of injured pace duo Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif not making the squad.

“The news of Shoaib and Asif was a big blow for our World Cup campaign but amid the mishap I am eagerly looking forward to take wickets in the West Indies to help my team in crisis,” Kaneria told reporters here before his team's departure to West Indies.

Kaneria said after the misfortune to the pace duo, he had a big responsibility on his shoulders to take his team further in the event. “I will try my best to carry the major burden of our bowling and come up to expectations of my team and captain,” he said.

“I have really worked hard for the World Cup as it is a great chance for me to make a permanent place in the team's one-day squad. I have worked on my fielding too which is very important in this form of the game,” said Kaneria.—Agencies
