BADIN, March 1: Federal Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education Zubeda Jalal has said that schools will be established in each district under the seven-year Social Protection Strategy programme.
She said that children with physical disabilities would receive education in normal schools and mentally retarded students in separate schools.
She was talking to journalists at food packet distribution ceremony of the Tawana Pakistan Programme (TPP) among the students of Government Girls School in Pahar Mari village near Wanai on Thursday.
Earlier, speaking at the programme launching ceremony outside the circuit house here, she said that the TPP was first launched in 2,002 to provide cooked meal to girl students of primary schools but it failed due to lapses and disruption in educational activities.
She said that under the revised programme, milk and biscuits rich in calories would be provided to the girl students during interval and it would help enhance enrolment in schools in poor localities.
Ms Jalal said that the programme would cost Rs7.6 billion in 50 districts of the country and it had been launched in Badin district for two years on experimental basis. She added that 208 schools in Badin district had been selected where more than 14,477 girl students would receive food packets daily.
She urged the teachers to play their role to make the programme success.
She said that local people would be given jobs in the TPP and directed the director-general of the programme to ensure appointment of local people. She said that qualified girls would be appointed to help run the programme. She said that the project focused on community participation.
