LAHORE, Feb 27: Police officers have been directed to gear up the ongoing campaign against crimes, especially gambling, in the city and put aside all pressures and expose the elements involved in such activities.

Presiding over a meeting on the law and order situation and the ongoing campaign against gambling dens here on Tuesday, Capital City Police Officer additional IG Malik Iqbal said a vigorous campaign had been launched to eliminate social crimes, including gambling dens and brothels and action against a number of gambling dens had been taken.

Appreciating the performance of the Model Town SP and the CIA, he directed all SPs to take stern action against the people involved in anti-social activities and submit a report to him on a daily basis.

He made it clear that performance of each SP would be evaluated individually regarding elimination of gambling and drug dens and brothels.

The AIG also directed the officers for the revival of beat officer system in the police station to further improve efficiency of police stations.

AIG Iqbal said a complete ban had been imposed on kite flying, and it was the responsibility of SPs to ensure implementation of the restriction and take stringent action against violators.

He warned that no leniency would be shown, and the officers found guilty of negligence would be taken to task.

He said the people involved in aerial firing on the eve of Basant owing to which innocent people wre killed should be traced and strict action be taken against them.
