KARACHI, Oct 6: The University Grants Commission (UGC), Islamabad, has asked all the provincial education ministries to take action against the educational institutions with fake foreign affiliations.

The UGC has approved only five educational institutions for affiliation with foreign universities and institutions during the last four years. A large number of institutions are running their degree programmes with fake foreign affiliations. These institutions boast foreign affiliations and receive huge fees from the students for awarding phony degrees, the sources said.

The education department has also started collecting data on foreign affiliated institutes that have not followed the proper channel for submitting to the federal government.—PPI
