KARACHI, Feb 25: With the participation of more than 300,000 women, the three-day Women’s Expo concluded on Sunday.

Various organisations working for the betterment of women, including Mashal Women Skill Development Training Center, the Institute for Development Studies & Practices of Pakistan, Sungi Development Foundation and others had set up stalls. Women artisans from Quetta, Haripur, Skardu, Gilgit, D.G. Khan and quake-affected areas also participated in the event.

The exhibition was organized by 4th Dimension Pvt Ltd in collaboration with the ministry of women development, SMEDA, German Agency for Technical Cooperation, non-government and corporate sectors.

The exhibition was the first ever national interactive platform for Pakistani women that highlighted the progressive image of society. The idea behind the Women’s Expo was to develop women’s interactive platform to integrate the efforts of all concerned quarters that were working for women development and empowerment. This interactive platform helped improve collaboration and bridged gap amongst the government, non-government and corporate sectors.

Shazia Shamim, a special child, displayed her talent for handmade tissue boxes, handbags, paintings, jewelry boxes, tile craft, dry flower, pot painting, glass painting, and craft work all done by her.

Around 200 stalls were set up for the Women’s Expo held in two halls of the Karachi Expo Centre. Over 150 corporate sector exhibitors set up their stalls while around 50 women artisans and women entrepreneurs from rural and urban areas participated in the event.

Many competitions and activities were also arranged during three days of the exhibition including talent hunt, cooking, beauty workshops and makeovers. —PPI
